Pat McCabe was born in Clones, Co. Monaghan in 1955. His novels include Carn, The Dead School, The Butcher Boy, winner of the Irish Times/Aerlingus Literature prize shortlisted for 1993 Booker Prize and made into the highly acclaimed film directed by Neil Jordan; Breakfast on Pluto also shortlisted for the booker prize; Winterwood winner of the Irish novel of the year 2007 The Holy City, The Stray Sod Country and Hello Mr. Bones, Goodbye Mr. Rat.
He has written for radio throughout his career. He adapted his novel The Butcher Boy for theatre Frank Pig Says Hello and had plays produced which included Loco County Lonesome. In recent years has built a strong working relationship with Livin Dred Theatre Company which has produced three of his plays to date The Dead School on a nationwide tour, Dublin Theatre Festival and a three-week sell out run in The Tricycle Theatre in London. They have collobarated again on The Ballad of Pat McNab and The Bridge Below the Town.
Pat was a recent involved in A Play Next Door for RTÉ.
