John’s 2018 Course: The Great American Family Drama (Acting)
We are delighted to announce the return of John P Kelly as the tutor for our course ‘The Great American Family Drama (Acting) ’.
Those old enough will remember John as a regular tutor at Gormanstown in the 1980’s to the 2000’s. In 2004 John upped roots and headed to Canada where he now lives and works.
On arrival in the capital city of Ottawa, John formed his own professional theatre company and has directed over thirty-five plays to date with that company and with other major venues. Over a twelve year period, he was four times nominated by the media critics as Best Director in the city and his company has also been awarded Best |Overall Professional Production on two occasions.
He directed the North American premiere of Mare Jones Fly Me to the Moon for the Great Canadian Theatre Company. Two years ago he was brought to Ireland to direct Driving Miss Daisy at the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin.
In addition to directing, John has also worked as an adjudicator and workshop leader, twice officiating at Theatre Ontario. He began adjudicating over thirty years ago and has worked in Ireland, Wales, Scotland, and Canada.
Following his week in Athlone, John will speed back to Canada where he will tutor at the Canadian equivalent of StageWorks. He is proud to adjudicate and workshop on both sides of the Atlantic. He is looking forward immensely to his return to ‘Gormo at Athlone’ bring back with him further experience and knowledge!
