RTÉ All-Ireland Drama Festival 2016

Cormac Donoghue and Mike Crowley at RTE ALl Ireland Drama Festival AwardsThe Gormanstown Summer School Scholarship was awarded to Mike Crowley of Kilmeen Drama Group at the awards ceremony on Saturday 7 May 2016. Mike played the role of  John Smith in Ray Cooney’s farce “Run for your Wife”.

Kilmeen Drama Group is based in Rossmore, West Cork and is one of the longest established drama groups in the Ireland.

Festival Adjudicator Padraic McIntyre, a regular Gormanston Drama Summer School tutor, awarded Mike Crowley the award at the end of a busy week with many outstanding shows and performances. In his post-show adjudication, Padraic said of John’s performance:

Mike Crowley, in the pivotal role of John Smith, was hailed for giving “the performance of the night”. He had many “brilliant moments” and he made the audience “sympathetic to this bumbling fool of a character”. Even though he was a bigamist, “we all empathised with him”.

We look forward to welcoming Mike to Gormanaton in August, continuing a proud association with the RTÉ All-Ireland Drama Festival. It is always a real privilege to be associated with the festival and attending both the functions and the great production staged over the week.

We wold also like to pay tribute to the many other groups and actors that competed in the Festival who are regular attendees to Gormanston. We look forward to meeting the all again soon at Gormanston 2016.
